HC Deb 20 April 1970 vol 800 c57W
Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will accede to a request from Ross and Cromarty County Council for the services of the Royal Engineers in carrying out a survey of the Pentland Road, between Stornoway and Carloway, Isle of Lewis, on the basis of its need for major reconstruction; and what notice for this request he requires.

Mr. Richard:

If such a request is received it will be considered in the normal way.

If it requires assistance the county council should make its request as early as possible since, even if the task meets the conditions governing the provision of military assistance, Royal Engineer manpower is heavily committed and it would undoubtedly be some time before they could undertake the work.
