asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many people were convicted of the offence of driving while disqualified in the last period for which figures are available; how many of them received a sentence of imprisonment; and how many such sentences were suspended.

Provisional figures indicate that during 1969 there were 12,353 convictions in England and Wales. Sentences of imprisonment were passed in 4,460 cases, which include 2,112 suspended sentences.
