asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many applicants for the Ulster Defence Regiment have been refused because of professional checks by the security service and the medical service, respectively.

As at 10th April 498 applications to join the Ulster Defence Regiment had been refused. As to the reasons for their rejection, I refer the hon. and learned Member to my answer to the hon. Member for Londonderry (Mr. Chichester-Clark) on 25th March.—[Vol. 798, c.415.]
