HC Deb 16 April 1970 vol 799 cc266-7W
39. Mr. Robert Howarth

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is aware that adjourned inquests may be delayed many months by the indisposition of the Coroner, causing distress to the relatives of the deceased; and if he will take steps to avoid unreasonable delays arising from this cause.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

I am aware that such difficulties may arise. My right hon. Friend will consider the need for a change in the law in the light of the report of the Departmental Committee on Death Certification and Coroners, which he hopes to receive later this year.
