HC Deb 16 April 1970 vol 799 cc272-3W
Mr. Rose

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many children in the Blackley constituency of Manchester and Manchester as a whole, respectively, are in residential care, approved schools, detention centres or Borstals.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

On 31st March, 1970, 1,760 children and young persons were in the care of the Manchester City Council, of whom 824 were in homes, hostels or boarding special schools. The council were contributing towards the maintenance of 195 children and young persons in approved schools. I regret that figures for detention centres and borstals, and separate figures for the Blackley constituency, are not available.
