HC Deb 15 April 1970 vol 799 cc261-2W
Mr. Horner

asked the Minister of Transport (1) how many vehicles he estimates will be passing daily through the Warley section of the West Midlands motorway link by the end of this year;

(2) what agreement has been reached with the County Borough Council of Warley as to the alternative routes to be followed in that borough by vehicles diverted from the motorway link in the event of a closure of that section of the link.

Mr. Bob Brown

It is estimated that during 1970 30,000–35,000 vehicles per day will pass through the Warley section of M5.

Discussions about the effect of diversions have been held with the West Midlands Traffic Management Committee, which includes Warley. We are considering what more can be done to ensure that the motorway is re-opened as quickly as possible, if it has to be closed after an accident, so as to reduce the diversion to other roads.
