§ Mr. Lomasasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science why a 225W letter from the hon. Member for Huddersfield, West, dated 26th February, 1970, asking about the staff of educational establishments run by a local education authority was passed from the Home Office to the Ministry of Housing and Local Government and then to the Department of Education and Science; and if he will make a statement.
Mr. ShortThe Ministry of Housing and Local Government, and not the Home Office, deals with general questions about disqualification for membership of local authorities. For teachers, however, as my hon. Friend knows, the position depends on the precise arrangements for appointment in each case, and the necessary inquiries of the local education authorities are made from my Department. I shall very shortly be sending my hon. Friend a substantive reply to his letter.
