HC Deb 13 April 1970 vol 799 cc170-1W
Mrs. Ewing

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, of the 220 full-time civil servants employed in connection with the Government Social Survey, how many have visited Scotland in connection with the survey since its inception; and of the 364 fee-paid interviewers, how many are based and will work in Scotland.

Mr. William Rodgers

One home-based supervisory officer lives in Scotland. As to other full-time civil servants employed by the Department, records of travel do not go back to the inception of the Social Survey in 1940, but in the financial year just ended 15 headquarters officers paid 30 visits to Scotland. Of the fee-paid interviewers 26 are based in Scotland and habitually work there. Some of them may have assignments from time to time in England, as English-based interviewers may have assignments in Scotland, according to the varying incidence of survey work.
