HC Deb 13 April 1970 vol 799 c160W
67. Mr. Eyre

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what plans he has for the rebuilding on the present site or otherwise of Selly Oak Hospital, Birmingham; what date has been fixed for such work to begin; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Crossman

The Birmingham Regional Hospital Board has had since 1966 a programme for the provision of a district general hospital on the Selly Oak Hospital site; currently contracts are being let to upgrade two further wards at a cost of £54,892. For the longer terms, and in the context of a reassessment of district general hospital requirements for this part of Birmingham, my Department has recently asked the board to consider whether there would be advantages in providing the district general hospital on some other site.
