HC Deb 13 April 1970 vol 799 c159W
63. Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services when he expects to implement the proposals of the hospital building programme to convert the Willesden General Hospital to a district hospital; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. John Dunwoody

The hospital building programme of 1966 envisaged further development of both the Willesden General and the Central Middlesex Hospitals but stressed that its proposals were flexible. The North West Metropolitan Regional Hospital Board has reviewed provision for this area in consultation with local interests and is now of the opinion that it would best be served by concentration of district hospital services on the site of the Central Middlesex Hospital where land is available. This is a proposal for the long term and the matter will be kept under review: the Board has reached no conclusion on the ultimate use of Willesden General Hospital, where space for development is restricted.
