HC Deb 13 April 1970 vol 799 cc169-70W
Mrs. Ewing

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will take steps to reduce the age for the purposes of retire- ment relief to sole proprietors for capital gains tax purposes.

Mr. Taverne

I have noted the hon. Lady's suggestion.

Mrs. Ewing

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what representations he has received from representative bodies, including the staff of the Inland Revenue, to simplify taxation by the elimination of short-term capital gains tax; and what reply he has sent.

Mr. Taverne

My right hon. Friend has received representations on this topic from a number of representative bodies, but none representing the staff of the Inland Revenue. Where a reply was called for, the bodies were told that their views had been noted and were being considered.
