HC Deb 09 April 1970 vol 799 c108W
Sir B. Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether, in view of the danger that many schools will be forced to close down at the start of the winter because of lack of heating, he will give further advice to local education authorities about the type of heating to be used.

Miss Bacon

No, and it is important that the risk of widespread school closures should not be exaggerated. The effects of the shortage of certain solid fuels will vary from place to place, and many schools are heated by other means. Local education authorities are the best judges of what measures, if any, are necessary in their areas, taking into account the advice of their suppliers.
