§ 34. Mr. Turtonasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what opportunities he gave parents of children attending Wath and Kirklington Schools to express their views before he decided to close the primary schools in those villages.
§ Miss BaconLocal government electors for the area, including parents, had opportunities to express their views at meetings in the villages arranged by the local education authority when the Ripon Diocesan Education Committee's proposal to close the schools was explained to them. Subsequently public notices of the proposal were published as required by Section 13 of the 1944 Education Act, which allows a period of two months within which objections may be made. Some parents exercised their statutory right of objection and I considered their views very carefully before I decided to approve the proposal.
