HC Deb 09 April 1970 vol 799 cc119-20W
Mr. Roebuck

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he will now make a statement, consequent upon the communication he has received from the hon. Member for Harrow, East, concerning the number of officers leaving the Royal Navy and Army prematurely after three-year degree courses at Oxford University sponsored by his Department.

Mr. Hattersley

The Department has sponsored officers to read for degrees at Oxford University since 1961 in the case of the Army, and since 1965 in the case of the Royal Navy. Five of the 44 Army officers who graduated have since left prematurely. No naval officers have done so.
