HC Deb 09 April 1970 vol 799 cc116-7W
61. Mr. Iremonger

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what steps he is taking to secure the release from Iran of Mr. Brian Rogers, who is liable to indefinite detention in prison unless he produces £750 customs duty, which sum he does not possess, and about whom the Foreign Secretary has received representations from the hon. Member for Ilford, North.

Mr. Foley

As a result of our Consul's intervention, charges of illegal sale of the car were dropped and Mr. Rogers was released from custody on his own signed undertaking to appear in Court whenever required in lieu of Bail of Rials 100,000 (approximately £555). Our Embassy is in close touch with the Iranian authorities concerning the settlement of the claim for customs duty on which the issue of an exit permit to Mr. Rogers. depends.
