HC Deb 09 April 1970 vol 799 cc108-9W
56. Sir G. de Freitas

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in view of the fact that there is no theological objection to fixing Easter on the third Sunday in April each year, he will enter into conversations with bodies such as tourist and holiday associations with a view to implementing the Easter Act, 1928, in this way.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

No. The implementation of the Easter Act, which would fix Easter as the Sunday after the second Saturday in April, ought, if possible, to carry the general agreement of the Christian churches, which has not yet been reached, though I understand that some progress is being made.
