HC Deb 07 April 1970 vol 799 c38W
6. Sir E. Errington

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he is aware that certain costs incurred by those whose property is compulsorily acquired are reimbursed by the acquiring authority but this is not so in the case of extra costs of establishing a well-maintained allowance; and whether he will take steps to end this anomaly.

Mr. Denis Howell

The bonus payment which may be given for a well-maintained unfit house is not strictly speaking compensation and the local authority cannot reimburse expenditure incurred in making a claim for one. But it is not necessary to spend much on a claim, particularly since the Housing Act 1969, which has simplified the system.
