HC Deb 07 April 1970 vol 799 c66W
Mr. Ron Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many beds are laid aside for fee-paying patients in the Carlisle hospitals; how much was taken in fees during the past financial year; and how much this works out per person receiving treatment.

Mr. Crossman

There is accommodation for eight private patients in the Carlisle hospitals. The beds are also used by non-paying patients. In the financial year 1968–69, £8,632 was collected in hospital charges at an average cost of £50 to each patient. These figures exclude the fees paid by patients to doctors for medical treatment.
