HC Deb 07 April 1970 vol 799 cc41-2W
43. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Govern- ment if he is aware of the increased damage to Great Britain's seaside resorts, tourist industry and transport by pollution of coastal water; and if he will state in detail the steps he has taken and plans to take to remedy this growing problem.

Mr. Greenwood

Arrangements for dealing with oil pollution have been made by local authorities covering the whole coastline of England. Responsibility for action to reduce the pollution of the sea by oil rests with my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade.

I expect to receive general advice on the control and methods of discharging liquid wastes to coastal waters from the Working Party on Sewage Disposal, which is submitting its report to me soon.
