HC Deb 07 April 1970 vol 799 c48W
52. Mr. Onslow

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the total number of convictions for burglary in the present county of Surrey in 1964 and 1969, respectively.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

In 1969 in the area covered by the Surrey Constabulary, 552 persons were convicted of burglary and aggravated burglary, including attempts. The changes introduced by the Theft Act, 1968, prevent the compilation of a corresponding figure for 1964.

53. Mr. Onslow

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the total number of convictions for burglary in England and Wales in 1964 and 1969, respectively.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

In England and Wales in 1969, 64,307 persons were convicted of burglary and aggravated burglary, including attempts to commit such offences. In view of the changes introduced by the Theft Act, 1968, it is not possible to compile a corresponding figure for 1964.
