HC Deb 06 April 1970 vol 799 cc16-7W
Mr. David Howell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what mileage rate the tax commissioners are paid in travelling allowances by road and rail, respectively.

Mr. Taverne

Travelling allowances are payable to General Commissioners of Income Tax if they are required to travel more than three miles to perform their duties. The cost of travel by public transport is reimbursed in full. Where a Commissioner uses his own car, he is paid a mileage rate of 7¾d. or 9¼d. depending on the engine capacity. These rates are under review.

Special Commissioners are paid travelling expenses on the same basis as civil servants.
