HC Deb 06 April 1970 vol 799 cc28-9W
Mr. G. Elfed Davies

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government (1) if he will send a circular to draw the attention of local authorities to the fact that bituminous coal can be burnt smoke-lessly by the use of underfeed stokers, thus making possible the diversion of gas coke to domestic users in clean air zones;

(2) if he will take steps to help local authorities to switch their heating systems from gas coke to coal in time for next winter.

Mr. Greenwood

I am in close touch with my right hon. Friend the Minister of Technology about the position concerning the supply of solid smokeless fuels for next winter. My hon. Friend's suggestions will be considered in this context, and I will write to him.
