HC Deb 06 April 1970 vol 799 c7W
50. Mr. Rankin

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what further consultations, and with what result, he has had with the Government of Hong Kong on the matter of employing women on night-shift work.

Mr. Luard

I explained in the answer I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Farnworth (Mr. Thornton) on 2nd March that Her Majesty's Government were satisfied that some night work under strictly controlled conditions could be accepted. Of the twelve applications received since 1st March, when the scheme which I then described came into operation, two have been granted and these cover 224 adult women in cotton spinning and weaving factories.
