asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what proportion of those who are entitled to claim family allowances do not do so; and what estimate he has made of the savings in expenditure which result from such claims not being made.

The proportion of families entitled to, but not claiming, family allowances—and the consequent savings—is not known, but past comparisons with census figures suggest that the proportion has been very small.
