56. Mr. Edward M. Taylorasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what, from information available to him from international sources, is the average rate of taxation imposed on profits earned by British companies in Burma, India, Tanzania, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and Ceylon, respectively; and whether restrictions are imposed by these countries on the remittance of net profits.
§ Mr. TaverneI regret I have no information about average taxation rates in these countries. In Burma all foreign business interests have been nationalised. In the other countries remittance of net profits is subject to the approval of the exchange control authorities, which in certain cases involves delays.
