HL Deb 22 October 1969 vol 304 c1711WA
Lord RAGLAN

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will investigate the potential of the Stirling external combustion engine as a prime mover for vehicles.

The MINISTER of STATE, MINISTRY of TECHNOLOGY (LORD DELA-COURT-SMITH)

The Ministry of Technology has kept itself aware of the possibilities of this type of engine for various applications. It holds promise of advantages in respect of quietness and low pollution under constant Lord but there is no evidence that the exhaust would be cleaner than the internal combustion engine under fluctuating conditions. It is also likely to have certain disadvantages compared with types of engine in established use.

House adjourned during pleasure. House resumed.
