HC Deb 21 October 1969 vol 788 c229W
Mr. McGuire

asked the Minister of Technology what has been the increase in consumption of fuel oil by power stations during the summer compared with last summer, expressed in terms of coal equivalent; what proportion of the increase was in fuel oil from refineries abroad; and what has been the cost in foreign exchange.

Mr. Harold Lever

Consumption of fuel oil at stations generating electricity for public supply in the United Kingdom from April to September 1969 inclusive was 1,343,000 tons of coal equivalent higher than in the corresponding period of 1968. Statistics do not identify the origin of fuel oil delivered to particular markets, but supplies from refineries abroad were lower this summer than last.
