§ 50. Mr. Leadbitterasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will introduce legislation to require local authorities to provide easy access to all new buildings for disabled people, including those using wheelchairs.
§ Mr. SkeffingtonI would refer my hon. Friend to the answer on this subject to my hon. Friend the Member for Morpeth (Mr. Will Owen) on 20th October.
§ 51. Mr. Leadbitterasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government how many local authorities have introduced schemes to facilitate movement in the streets for disabled people confined to wheelchairs.
§ Mr. SkeffingtonI regret that this information is not available. However, as my hon. Friend knows, this Department and others—including the Ministry of 189W Transport—have issued advice to local authorities on easing the problems of the disabled, although I am sure that most local authorities are doing this.
We shall certainly take every opportunity of reminding them of their obligations to the disabled.
