asked the Minister of Transport how many train derailments occurred in the first nine months of 1969; and what were the comparable figures in the first nine months of 1967, 1965 and 1963, respectively.

The provisional figures for reportable derailments of passenger and goods trains on all railways in Great Britain for the first nine months of 1969 are 18 and 292, respectively, making a total of 310. The comparable figures for the first nine months of 1967, 1965 and 1963 are as follows:

The figures for goods trains include the derailment of empty coaching stock, light locomotives and special vehicles such as self-propelled track maintenance machines, mobile cranes, etc.
