HC Deb 21 October 1969 vol 788 c195W
Sir W. Bromley-Davenport

asked the President of the Board of Trade what organisations were officially consulted and in what manner, about appointments to the British Tourist Authority and the tourist boards.

Mrs. Gwyneth Dunwoody

Members of the British Tourist Authority and of the English Tourist Board are not representatives or delegates of particular interests; official consultation with particular organisations about the appointments would not, therefore, have been appropriate. It was open to any individual or organisation to make suggestions for appointments to the Authority and the Board, and a number of suggestions were in fact received. The appointment of members of the Scottish and Wales Tourist Boards is the responsibility of the Secretaries of State for Scotland and Wales respectively.
