§ Mr. Gordon Campbellasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the latest progress towards conclusion of an international agreement to prohibit or restrict fishing for salmon in the North Atlantic.
§ Mr. HoyAt their meetings this summer, the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries accepted, by substantial majorities, recommendations for a ban on the fishery for Atlantic salmon outside national fisheries limits. Two countries have submitted memoranda setting out 131W their objections to the recommendations, but it is not yet clear what the final outcome will be. In the meantime, the position is being kept under review.
