§ 39. Mr. Bruce-Gardyneasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether, in view of the fact that official figures of Swedish, French, Italian, Japanese, German and United States imports from South Africa in 1968 exceeded the official figures of South African exports to those countries by 20 per cent., 30 per cent., 33 per cent., 33 per cent., 48 per cent. and 74 per cent., respectively, and that this shows the scale of each of those countries' imports from Rhodesia, he will now abandon the sanctions policy.
§ Mr. FoleyNo. Even if the hon. Member's assumption were correct, which it is not, this would not justify the abandonment of sanctions which, as my right hon. Friend said at the United Nations General Assembly last month, should be applied steadily and resolutely.
