§ 82. Mr. John Leeasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the percentage of the capital value of all United Kingdom commercial and industrial assets currently owned by nationalised industries or by Government Departments; and what were the corresponding percentages in 1964 and 1951.
§ Mr. William RodgersThe only comprehensive figures for industrial and commercial assets are those for the net capital stock at current replacement cost in the National Income Blue Book, adjusted to exclude dwellings and the non-trading assets of central Government and local authorities. Of these assets, 32 per cent. were owned by public corporations and the central Government at the end of 1968 compared with 28 per cent. at the end of 1964. Figures for 1951 are not available.
