HC Deb 26 November 1969 vol 792 c85W
50. Mr. Rankin

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many mid-air collisions have occurred since 1962 to the latest convenient date, involving British aircraft and aircraft flying in or around Great Britain; and what instructions are now in force to lessen the chance of such accidents.

Mr. Goronwy Roberts

During the period 1st January, 1962, to 31st October, 1969, there were nine mid-air collisions involving British civil aircraft and aircraft flying in and around Great Britain. None involved public transport aircraft. Prevention depends primarily upon prompt reporting and thorough investigation of all possible airmisses, followed up equally promptly by action to improve procedures, rules and regulations. All airmiss reports are thoroughly investigated by an organisation known as the Air Miss Working Group, and any improvements in procedures and rules found necessary are promptly put into effect.
