§ Dr. Ernest DaviesThe main problem of the electric car is the battery. The Department is therefore supporting work aimed at the development of batteries with high energy storage capacity. The Department is also studying the application of the steam engine to automobiles, but the indications are that problems associated with development of a useful engine are considerable.
