§ Mr. Simon Mahonasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will make a further statement about the date on which he expects the Inland Revenue Computer Centre at Bootle to be set up.
§ Mr. Roy JenkinsI regret it will not now be possible to bring this centre into operation by the date given by my right hon. Friend, the present Paymaster-General, in his reply to the hon. Member for Hertfordshire, South-West (Mr. Longden) on 14th July. Arrangements are, however, being made to secure temporary accommodation so that the transfer of staff and work to Bootle can proceed and the effect of the delay on the rest of the Inland Revenue's automation programme be reduced as far as possible. —[Vol. 787, c. 49]
