HC Deb 21 November 1969 vol 791 cc397-8W
Mr. Powell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why he amended the standard conditions of Government contracts for stores purchase in October last so as to include a requirement that contractors shall not act unlawfully in respect to the Race Relations Act, 1968; and whether he will further amend the standard conditions so as to require contractors not to infringe any other provisions of the general law.

Mr. William Rodgers

To make clear the Government's intention to use its influence as a major purchaser of goods and services to discourage racial discrimination in employment. Other proposals for amendment would be considered on their merits.
