HC Deb 21 November 1969 vol 791 cc383-4W
Mr. William Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the average weekly wage of forestry workers in Wales; and what is the average weekly wage of supervisory grades.

Mr. George Thomas

The Commission employs a wide variety of industrial staff and the earnings of forest workers are not identified separately in the accounts. A figure for the average weekly forest workers' earnings is not therefore available. The basic weekly wages of forest workers employed by the Forestry Commission are:

£ s. d.
Basic rate 12 12 0
Skilled Forest Worker 13 3 0

These earnings may be supplemented by piecework.

2. Non-industrial supervisors in the Forestry Commission are paid annual salaries within the appropriate scale. For the grades mainly concerned these scales are;

Annual Salary
From To
£ £
District Officer (Grade I) 2,093 2,774
District Officer (Grade II) 1,144 2,093
Chief Forester 1,818 2,261
Head Forester 1,556 1,818
Forester 1,203 1,556

3. No information is available on earnings within the private sector.
