HL Deb 19 November 1969 vol 305 c1056WA
LORD AMULREE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What was the average number of people sleeping rough during 1969 in the G.L.C. area, and the corresponding figure for 1938 in the L.C.C. area.

BARONESS PHILLIPS

I regret that figures for 1969 are not available. The National Assistance Board made a national count of persons sleeping rough on the night of December 6, 1965, and found 275 persons in their London Region sleeping out in stations, derelict buildings, under arches, in open spaces and on the streets. An L.C.C. survey in 1938 found 53 persons sleeping in the streets.
