§ Mr. Malcolm MacMillanasked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) what progress has been made towards the provision of a vehicle ferry service with appropriate shore installations for the Isle of Eriskay; and if he will make a statement;
(2) what progress has been made in respect of the proposed vehicle ferry service between Berneray Island and the Isle of North Uist.
§ Mr. RossThe responsibility for putting forward detailed proposals for these services rests with Inverness County Council. I understand that the Council is reviewing all requirements for new ferry services in its area in order to establish priorities for assistance. In the case of Eriskay, the council consider the improvement of the existing jetty to be an immediate necessity, and I am considering proposals for this.
