§ 50. Mr. David Watkinsasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many destitute British subjects sought financial assistance from the British Consulate in San Francisco in the period 1st January to 31st October, 1969.
§ Mr. LuardThe total number seeking financial assistance was about 420, including some 250 students. The majority were found not to be destitute or else they refused aid on the conditions laid down in the regulations. Seven were assisted to return to the United Kingdom.
