§ Mr. Rhodesasked the Minister of Transport what is the policy of the Government with regard to Resolution No. 423 in reply to the 15th annual report of the European Conference of Ministers of Transport, which was adopted by the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe on 2nd October, 1969; and whether they will give their representatives in the European Conference of Ministers of Transport instructions designed to abolish international green motoring insurance cards.
Mr. Bob BrownThe resolution covers nine very varied matters and we shall be considering, with our partners in the European Conference of Ministers of Transport, what action to take on it. As regards the specific question of the green card, our present view is that it is a172W convenient form of evidence of possession of valid insurance cover to the extent required by the national laws of the countries visited. Even if such laws were uniform, there would still be a need for evidence in some form, and there is no obviously better alternative to the green card.
