The employment estimates for mid-1968 'are analysed according to the 1958 edition of the Standard Industrial Classification and only combined estimates are available for the stone and slate quarrying and mining industries (Minimum List Heading 102). At mid-1968 there were in Wales 3,800 male employees in employment in these industries. The current series of employment statistics starts at mid-1948. At that date the estimates were analysed according to the 1948 edition of the S.I.C. and the numbers of male employees in employment in Wales were 5,700 in stone quarrying and mining (MLH 12) and 4,600 in slate quarrying and mining (MLH 13).
