HC Deb 12 November 1969 vol 791 c105W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will introduce legislation to compel manufacturers of vacuum-packed foods, such as bacon, to give the final date for consumption for the product on the packet; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Hoy

No. The public is protected from the purchase of stale food by the general provisions of the Food and Drugs Act, 1955. Manufacturers may indicate the date by which food should be consumed by it would not be right to make this a compulsory requirement.
