§ Mr. Palmerasked the Minister of Public Building and Works if he will make a statement on the progress so far of the excavations and archaeological investigations at Silbury Hill, Wiltshire.
§ Mr. John SilkinThe examination of the interior of the mound by means of a main tunnel to its centre and shorter lateral tunnels was completed by the B.B.C. team last August and the excavation is in process of being backfilled.
Subsidiary examinations of the ditch and of the summit of the mound were also carried out and there is a proposal for a further excavation of the summit and the ditch in 1970 to establish construction methods and climatic changes since the mound was raised.
The final report by the supervisor in charge of the excavation will not be available until all work is completed but it can be stated that no discovery of outstanding archaeological importance has so far been made.
