HC Deb 12 November 1969 vol 791 cc89-90W
67. Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what progress has been made towards provision of a fishery jetty in Scalpay; whether it will include the extension proposed by the local fishermen; when it is likely to be available for use; what is the esti- mated cost; and what contribution his Department will make to the project.

Mr.Ross

In March I offered to pay Inverness County Council 75 per cent, of the cost, estimated at some £43,000, of this jetty, which will measure approximately 120 feet by 17 feet. The council accepted this offer and is taking steps to obtain statutory authority to undertake the work, which shoul be completed within 15 to 18 months. I understand that the council consulted the local fishermen on the scheme before submitting it to me.
