§ Mr. Goronwy RobertsVery few complaints are received about pollution under the glide path alleged to be caused by aircraft. I will consider whether a specific investigation is warranted.

Royleasked the President of the Board of Trade if he will list the research undertaken in recent years in the United Kingdom showing that the contribution of aircraft to atmospheric pollution at ground level is small compared to that of road vehicles or industrial and domestic sources at London Airport, Heathrow; and, following the special measurements made in 1965, if he will detail the other measurements that show that there is no particular concentration of pollution near Heathrow.
§ Mr, Goronwy RobertsAs stated in my Answer to the hon. Member on 5th November, 1969, special measurements of atmospheric pollution at ground level were made at Heathrow in 1958, 1962 and 1965 by the National Gas Turbine Establishment in collaboration with the Air Pollution Unit of the Medical Research Council. The other measurements referred to in this Answer were taken as part of the continuing National Survey of Smoke and Sulphur Dioxide and showed that places affected by Heath96W row traffic such as Hayes, Harlington, Windsor and Chelsea experience no greater air pollution than comparable areas not affected by Heathrow traffic.
