§ Mr. Denis HowellThe existing arrangements within this country are generally effective but we are considering whether they need improvement, in particular in identifying gaps in research, and we shall bear my hon. Friend's suggestion in mind. My right hon. Friend has recently filled one such gap with the appointment of a technical steering committee on water quality, drawn from industry, local government, river authorities, Government departments and research organisations.
We shall continue to take a full part in international studies of common problems in this field.
