HC Deb 11 November 1969 vol 791 cc73-4W
Miss Devlin

asked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) whether, in view of the destruction of public installations in Northern Ireland and recent acts of terrorism in the Republic of Ireland caused by armed extremist groups in Northern Ireland, he will give an assurance that applicants for places in the new security force in Northern Ireland will be required to give an undertaking that they are not, and have not been, associated with any para-military organisation;

(2) whether he will make a statement on the training requirements and rates of pay for the new security force to be established in Northern. Ireland.

Mr. Hattersley

I would ask the hon. Lady to await the White Paper which my right hon. Friend is about to publish.
