HC Deb 11 November 1969 vol 791 c65W
74. Mr. Driberg

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why taxpayers resident in Barking, Essex, are invited on an official form to call at an office in Manchester if they wish to check the accuracy of their codings.

Mr. Taverne

Most of those who received the notices my hon. Friend refers to live or work in the Manchester area. The others involved work for employers whose employees as a whole have their tax affairs dealt with there. It is regretted that special wording was not added to the notices in the latter case. More recent versions of the notice state that taxpayers who cannot conveniently get into touch with Manchester inquiry office may call at a convenient local tax office.
